Nitmiluk National Park located at the end of Gorge road (Giles rd, Katherine) have allot of spectacular attractions found within 180,000 hectares of natural territory parkland. Katherine Gorge is located within Nitmiluk National Park. There are 13 gorges in the system carved out of rock by torrential wet season rains over millions of years. Rocks and boulders separate each gorge. Five of the gorges are accessible by organized tours and boat cruises or alternatively you can hire a canoe and set off for a wilderness adventure of your own. Within the gorge system you will find some stunning Aboriginal rock art - x-ray art which are many thousands of years old. These Aboriginal art sites are amongst the most popular attractions of the park and a definite must see while visiting the park. The gorge is located 29 km's from the Katherine Post Office on an all sealed road.

Nitmiluk National Park has something for everyone ranging from Aboriginal Rock Art, scenic waterfalls, swimming holes - billabong's, to an abundance of flora and fauna. Within the gorge you can go on a boat cruise or alternatively hire a kiak or canoe to paddle through the gorges at your own pace. Each gorge is accessible from the next and you can get to the next gorge by carting your boat over the rocks to the beginning of the next gorge.
Another popular place to visit within Nitmiluk National Park for spectacular scenery is the ever popular Edith Falls.
Access to Edith Falls is not the same as you would go via gorge rd (Katherine) There is a turn off on your left a few kilometres before reaching the Katherine township. (if your heading from Darwin) which you travel about 20kms along that will take you to Edith Falls. Camping is permitted at both parts of Nitmiluk.

( Note: Katherine is 314 km's from Darwin).
