New Territory fish possession limits
New fish possession limits for the Northern Territory started
on the 1st of January 2002.
The new personal possession limits for managed species are now:
- 5 barramundi, except the Mary River where a limit of 2 barra
applies
( Minimum size of 55cm )
- 5 golden snapper
- 5 black jewfish
- 5 Spanish mackerel
- 10 muddies, with a boat limit of 30
( Minimum size limit for males 13cm, females 14 cm
)
- 10 tropical rock lobsters, with a boat limit to 30
- 10 litres of molluscs, with shell`s on
Species which are exempt from possession limits
are:
- Prawns.
- Baitfish ( mullet, whiting, garfish, pilchards, sardines
and herrings ).
- Marine Bream
- Sea Urchins and Starfish.
While in possession of your catch to help identify
each species you must:
- Leave the entire skin on fillets or trunks of non - managed
species
- Fillets of managed species must be kept separate from fillets
of other species
If a fillet is dissected in any way, it will be
deemed that each portion is a whole fillet and therefore equal
to half a fish. Beware.
