The future looks bright for Darwin, a growing city
assured of prosperity through the continuing development of its
resources and infrastructure. Darwin City, combined with the relics
of its past retains its character of a small country town, where
people are not too busy to stop for a chat with friends or strangers.
It is the financial and commercial target of Northern Australia,
but does not suffer from the negatives of high density cities
such as pollution and traffic experienced in other capital cities.
It's a place to relax and enjoy oneself, make new friends, go
for sunset strolls, visit shopping arcades and night markets,
see unique wildlife, breath fresh air, eat fine food and have
fun.
The rural areas that surround Darwin are expanding outwards with
new facilities being built to help cope with the ever expanding
population.
As the northern gateway to Australia, Darwin combines
elements of Australia, Asia Greece and a host of other nationalities
to give tourist and locals an unique cultural experience.
The past 12 months have seen unprecedented interest
in the development of retail premises within the Darwin precinct,
together with a revamped marketing campaign for Darwin
City has refocused attention on Darwin itself.
Completion of the Mall upgrade, designed to create
a more user friendly Mall irrespective of seasonal conditions,
with a more artistic approach to building structures while providing
an interesting and relaxing atmosphere. The construction of inner
city medium rise residential apartments, both for owner occupation
and as serviced apartment accommodation, has made one major retailer
build a new supermarket within the city with other retailers looking
to expand into the city centre.
Whether it is commercial, industrial or residential
development, Darwin's continued growth looks assured. In view
of the strong population growth, the increased defence presence
in the north, the Territory's commitment to infrastructure projects
such as the AustralAsia rail link and the East Arm Port, the increased
awareness of Darwin as a tourist destination and the discoveries
of oil and gas supplies in the Timor Seas this will only benefit
the Territory in the long run
This already is starting to have a positive effect
as many shop and club owners are making their shops stand out
to keep up with the tourist and local markets. Which also highlights
the uniqueness that only can be experienced in a city on the move
such as Darwin.
